Job Description
WVVA, a Gray Local Media station serving the Appalachian region from Bluefield, WV, is hiring a full-time Sports Anchor / Multimedia Journalist. We’re looking for a high-energy storyteller who lives and breathes local sports and can connect with our community on-air and across digital platforms.
You’ll tell the stories behind the scores — the people, the passion, and the community impact of sports. While we cover the plays and the stats, we’re most interested in the why and the how: what drives competitors, what unites fans, and what sports mean to our towns and schools. With the strongest high school sports coverage in the market, you’ll play a key role in keeping our audience informed and engaged.
At WVVA, we're not just committed to strong journalism and community service; we're obsessed with excellence! We embrace cutting-edge technology and constantly seek innovative ways to dominate our market. We believe in nurturing the best and brightest, offering top-tier training and development to help you reach your full potential.
Duties: (including but not limited to)
• Serve as the weekend sports anchor and multimedia journalist; provide fill-in sports anchoring during the week as needed.
• Shoot, write, edit, and produce compelling sports stories, features, and game highlights with an emphasis on local coverage.
• Report live from events and develop enterprise stories that go beyond the box score.
• Consistently create and update content for the station’s website, social media, and digital platforms throughout the day as needed.
• Meet daily deadlines while maintaining a commitment to accuracy, fairness, and journalistic ethics.
Qualifications: (including but not limited to)
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Experience as a sports multimedia journalist in a television newsroom preferred.
• Confident, engaging on-air presence and strong storytelling skills.
• Proficiency shooting and editing video; ability to produce content independently.
• Comfortable contributing to social and digital platforms and engaging with the community.
• Team player with a positive attitude, able to work independently and adapt to a flexible schedule.
• Familiarity with ENPS and Edius is a plus; professional knowledge of broadcast operations helpful.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driver record check required.
