The West Virginia Broadcasters Association (WVBA) today announced the winners of the 2026 Excellence in Broadcasting Awards, honoring exemplary performance in television, radio, and network broadcasting across the Mountain State.
The presentation of the Dale B. Miller Distinguished Broadcaster Award to Sean Banks highlighted the evening, recognizing his outstanding contributions to West Virginia broadcasting.
In television categories, stations across the state were recognized for excellence in breaking news, investigative reporting, feature storytelling, newscasts, and digital innovation. Leading honorees included WSAZ-TV, WCHS-TV, WOWK-TV, WVVA-TV, WVNS-TV, WTRF-TV, WOAY-TV, and WBOY-TV.
Notably, WSAZ-TV (Huntington/Charleston) was named Television Station of the Year – Large Market, while WTRF-TV (Wheeling) earned Television Station of the Year – Small Market.
On the radio side, stations were honored across multiple formats including country, CHR, AC, rock, and news/talk, with recognition for on-air personalities, newscasts, programming, and digital engagement. Top honors included WHKX Kicks Country, which was named Radio Station of the Year, along with recognition for stations such as WAJR, WCHS-AM, WKWS-FM, WJLS-FM, WKLC-FM, and WEPM-AM.
The 2026 awards also reflected continued growth in digital storytelling, community impact, and investigative reporting, highlighting the evolving role of broadcasters in serving audiences across West Virginia.
“The Excellence in Broadcasting Awards continue to showcase the best of West Virginia’s media industry,” WVBA leadership noted. “This year’s honorees demonstrate the professionalism, creativity, and commitment that define broadcasting across our state.”
