Meteorologist, Reporter

Job Description

WTRF’s Weather team need an EXPERIENCED weather ace with a meteorology-related degree to cover snow, spring thunderstorms and a broad range of conditions.


Our severe weather coverage is second-to-none. When severe weather threatens, we’re live online.  When it’s life-threatening, we’re live on TV. 


We're looking for someone who believes in active weathercasting, generating your own forecast, tracking down to the street level and being first with breaking weather and news. 


You also need to be passionate about reporting local enterprise news stories.  A major priority for our team is producing stories or exclusive weather segments on the market’s dominant digital platforms.


This meteorologist will, also report and shoot as a Multimedia Journalist.


 


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Gather video and information for news stories.

  • Produce and report weather and/or news stories across all media platforms.

  • Present live weather and news reports from the station as well as in the field.

  • Write weather stories and update forecast information on station website.

  • Develop innovative and creative ways of presenting the daily weather story.

  • Create maps and graphics to illustrate weather conditions.


 


Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



  • Solid vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation.

  • Strong reporting skills.

  • Understand importance of social media.

  • Proficiency with WSI weather systems.

  • Detail oriented.


 


Education/Experience:   At least one year of on-air television experience in forecasting and presenting weather.


Training/Equipment:  Operate newsroom computer systems.  Operate electronic news gathering (ENG) cameras, transmitters and accessories.


Work Environment/Mental/Physical RequirementsHigh stress environment with deadline pressures. 


Work may be performed in extreme outdoor temperatures.
