WVBA Honors Broadcasters Statewide at the 2020 Excellence in Broadcasting Awards

The West Virginia Broadcasters Association (WVBA) today announced the winners of the 2020 Excellence in Broadcasting Awards, celebrating outstanding journalism, creative work, and technical excellence across television, radio, and network broadcasting in West Virginia.

This year’s top honor, the Mel Burka Distinguished Broadcaster Award, went to Perry A. Sook of Nexstar Media Group, recognizing his long-term contributions to broadcasting in the region.

Other standout recipients included WDGG 93.7 THE DAWG — named Legendary Station of the Year — and WCHS-TV, which secured Best Television Station of the Year. The technical innovation award, the John McKinney Excellence in Technology Award, was given to Bob Hardman of WBOY-TV.

The 2020 winners span a broad range of categories, from community outreach and newscast excellence to creative production and on-air talent — underscoring the diversity and strength of West Virginia’s broadcast industry.
