Daytime Emmys to Give Judge Judy Sheindlin, Jacques Pépin Lifetime Achievement Awards

Awards to be given on Friday, May 3, and Sunday, May 5, at two Daytime Emmys ceremonies

Judge Judy Sheindlin and Jacques Pépin will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Daytime Emmy Awards in May, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said Wednesday.

Pepin, who is the first culinary personality to receive this honor, will receive his award at the Creative Arts ceremony on Friday, May 3, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California. while Sheindlin’s will be presented to her at the 46th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony, also in Pasadena, on Sunday, May 5.

“The Daytime Emmy Awards recognize both the excellence and vibrant diversity of daytime television programming,” said NATAS President and CEO Adam Sharp in a statement. “Judge Judy Sheindlin epitomizes both, shaping one of the mainstay genres of our medium.”

Judge Judy, the syndicated court show that Sheindlin hosts, was the top-rated and most-watched show in the just concluded February sweeps at a 7.8 live plus same day household sweeps average. The show was named outstanding legal and courtroom series by the Daytime Emmys in 2013, 2016 and 2017.

Jacques Pépin

Pépin got his start on television i 1999 when he co-starred with Julia Child in the PBS series Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home for which they were awarded Daytime Emmy Awards as outstanding hosts in 2001. He has gone on to have several cooking shows, including Jacques Pépin: Fast Food My Way and Jacques Pépin: More Fast Food My Way, on PBS in daytime in the past 15 years. All of Pépin’s programs have been produced by public TV station KQED San Francisco.

“Daytime television has been forever changed by the culinary efforts of Jacques Pépin,” said David Michaels, senior vice president and executive producer of the Daytime Emmy Awards, also in a statement. “Pépin’s body of work helped inspire not just millions of cooks at home, but also the myriad staples of culinary television we now see.”
